What I do
I have been teaching since 2006 for workshops and weekly progressive series in lindy hop, balboa and charleston and solo jazz. I work with a variety of partners including Nathan Bugh, Bobby White and Anthony Chen. I work with students to refine lead-follow technique, integrate rhythm and movement, and find musicality in a personal way. I also specialize in special topics such as follower technique, structural musicality for jazz choreographers, and dance technique. I have been blessed to teach around the world at camps such as Herräng Dance Camp, Lindy Focus, Camp Jitterbug, Beantown Dance Camp, Rock That Swing Festival, Boston Tea Party, and many many others.
I am the recipient of many national titles in lindy hop, balboa and solo jazz, at events including ILHC, ULHS, Camp Jitterbug, Stompology, Lindy Focus, Lonestar, Lindyfest, and Balboa Rendevous among others.
I am a passionate choreographer for teams and solo jazz troupes. I have worked with the troupe Sister Kate as artistic lead for 4 years, driving the team from solo jazz performances at lindy hop events, to full-blown dance theater productions for large-scale venues. At present, I currently run the production company, “Starlets, Harlots and Dames” which features vintage-inspired entertainment. I have also collaborated with performers from around the world to present complex and creative pieces for various Cabaret shows such as ILHC, Lindy Focus and Camp Jitterbug.
Since 2010, I have brought jazz dance to wider audiences with cabaret-style revues. Through 2014 I produced a live music swing dance and cabaret event, Red Hot Rhythm Revue which brought hundreds of San Francisco dancers to see swing and jazz dance performances. I collaborate with dancers, actors, emcees, scenic and sound designers to make entertaining theme-driven shows. Venues include the Century Ballroom, The Can Can and Benaroya Hall.
Build Solo Jazz and Female-Centered Community
I am a huge proponent of all-female dance troupes and encourage all scenes to have one. I have been artistic lead for the group Sister Kate (Seattle, WA) The Sweet Sixteen (San Francisco), and am currently Artistic Director of New York’s Chorus Girl Company, Gaby Galore & her Sugar Shakers. I frequently give talks on girls teams and share resources including choreography samples, costume inspiration, and interviews with different troupe across the country.
